Are You Superstitious?

When was the last time a black cat sauntered ahead of you while you walked back from school/shopping etc , and the sight of its grimy rear end gave you chills and the conviction that the day will surely be ruined for you?

Walking under the ladder, breaking a mirror, starting a journey on sunday, leaving sandals upturned ... any of these are familiar ?
         Every culture has them, superstitious.

Even today in the tapestry of modern science and technology. they may tout in difference but even most sophisticated and modern cultures of 21st century still have peculiarities that confront reason, still existing, transcending generations; passing from mother to daughters, father to son. I believe for every infinite superstitious there is a equally interesting explanation. But most recurring of the reason is probably the medical unawareness and limited knowledge of the people centuries ago.
If someone was to die, they would look for all sorts of causes for the person's demise, hence giving rise to all sorts of ridiculous beliefs dormant even today.
For example in countries like Italy, USA, UK, Ireland etc there's a wide spread superstitious about leaving a hat on the bed. it invites disease to the family. Some superstitious date back to the ancient civilizations, if the black cat crosses one's path, one would be down with bad luck also dates back to the ancient time.      This was because black cats were associated with witchcraft and were believed to be witches in disguise.

Similarly, the popular belief of 7 years o bad luck on a person breaking a mirror. It was long considered unlucky in ancient Greece and Rome. In ancient Greece for example, it was believed that one saw the wills of gods in the mirror. Thus, if the mirror was broken unintentionally, it indicated that the gods did not wanted that person to see the future as it held unpleasant things!

I discovered so many fascinating superstitious around the globe, that there's no way I can include all of them here, however, here are few random ones:

  • NEVER HAND SOMEONE A KNIFE DIRECTLY, PUT IT DOWN FIRST AND LET THEM PICK IT UP. (TURKEY)
  • NEVER WRITE A NAME WITH THE RED PEN, AS IT LOOKS LIKE A BLOOD. (TURKEY)
  • DO NOT STEP ON BOOKS OR BRUSH YOUR HAIR IN THE CAR. (POLAND)
  • DO NOT OPEN PRESENT IN THE FRONT OF THE GIVER. (TURKEY)
  • NEVER BRING ALONG, BROOMS WHEN YOU MOVE HOUSE, THROW IT OUT AND BUY A NEW ONE. (BRAZIL)

I personally do not believe in these superstitious as they are not true
and originated by the ancient people who had limited knowledge about
                      everything.

Now i ask you few questions..

  • Do u believe in these?
  • Are you a superstitious?
  • What are your beliefs?
